According to reports, Karim Benzema is a target for Borussia Dortmund due to their inability to sign Chelsea laonee Michy Batshuayi.
Before I say anything about this rumour, I guess it is fair to say that you need to take this with a huge pile of salt. Borussia Dortmund are interested in signing Benzema because they can’t sign Batshuayi, at least according to some reports:
Almost everyone understands that Benzema moving to Borussia Dortmund is an unlikely scenario. However, there is the question of whether it would make sense to target him.
For starters, he is more likely to join Arsenal than BVB, since London is a much better location to move to, alongside Arsene Wenger’s obsession with him for years. At 30, Benzema’s powers are waning and he is on the wrong end of the cliff. However, he does possess an impressive skillset that could keep him relevant for at least a few more years.
His ability to bring in his teammates into the play is well-known but a lesser appreciated quality of his, is his finishing. The French striker has an innate sense of where the goal is and usually shows up in big-game scenarios. He is ideally suited to a possession based side but considering the pace that BVB has with wingers like Pulisic and Reus, that will not be a problem.
There is also the issue of money, since Dortmund have shown no hope whatsoever that they would be willing to spend the huge sum of money they made from the transfers of Aubameyang and Ousmane Dembele. Benzema will not come cheap as Real Madrid has a reputation of seeling high. Since everybody knows that BVB currently has a lot of money, the chances of them giving the striker away for a cut-price seems unlikely.
It is an unlikely scenario but having a striker of Benzema’s quality and European experience would be vital in pushing Dortmund to a more competitive place.
